Whether it’s a single proprietorship or a huge corporation, when the owner will be dealing with the general public in an estate office, that owner should be a licensed real estate agent. In some states, each branch office has to have a full-time agent to handle it. In other states, only the broker of the office can be the agent for that branch office. But even within a state that does permit non-licensed sellers to work out of their home office, there are different types of licenses that may be required. If you are looking at purchasing a property from a non-licensed broker, it may be better to check first if you need a Real Estate Broker’s License. A Real Estate Broker’s License can be really helpful but is not a must for all brokers. In fact, most brokers who wish to get a license have already passed the examinations and are already registered under the law as a Realtor. So this type of license is really not necessary if you are planning to run your own home business and will not be doing any transactions with the general public.

You could check with your local government to find out if you are required to have a license for doing business in that area. If so, then you should have no problem finding a broker’s license from your state or jurisdiction. Even though some states do not require a license to do real estate sales in their area, there are other places where you may want to check into licensing requirements before making a final decision. There are several different types of licensing requirements, and by knowing what’s required in your area, you will be able to make an informed decision about which type of license to get to start up your real estate sales business.
